Money Management Tools

Find the Right Money Management Tools to get your Finances in Order!

Back before computers, money matters were taken care of with a calculator, a pen, papers, and files. Today, many people still use these things sometimes, and there is no problem with that, but we have been lucky enough to advance considerably with the use of computers in the financial field.

Do-it-Yourself: Spreadsheets

Before we get into the fancier programs, I want to introduce to you a simple way to manage your money with just one simple program. With excel or any spreadsheet program, you can easily and efficiently manage your money once you have it under control. If you are worried about losing your work or if you can’t afford to buy a spreadsheet program, Google offers a free spreadsheet program under their documents section.

If you don’t know how to use a spreadsheet program, get a book to teach you the basics or just fiddle around with it. You do not need to know all the complicated formulas and functions to be able to use it for budgeting and money management.

You can set up your own system or you can search for one online. Create multiple pages for different goals as well as a page for your budget. You can also use a page to keep track of your accounts including savings accounts, checking accounts, and investment accounts.

Mint, Quicken, and other Money Management Tools

There are other money management tools out there as well. Quicken is a popular software program that many people use to organize their personal finances. You can get your own copy, or you can use the free online version. Quicken Online – One Place, One Password. Manage all your accounts on one place. Mint is another free online program that will organize all your accounts in one place.

Any Other Tools?

I always encourage everyone to educate themselves on finance and investing. I’ve come across many people who are under the impression that if they aren’t in the business or finance world they don’t need to know about money. That is very wrong. It’s a shame that they don’t teach kids more about money in school, but just because it’s not taught in school doesn’t mean it isn’t important. Education is important, even if it’s not in a formal classroom but through a book.

To be successful with your money, learn as much as you can about budgeting, finance, investing, planning, retirement, and whatever you need to achieve your financial goals. This is not something that should be overlooked. Strong financial health is just as important as the health of your body. Even the healthiest person can’t be content with their life if they are constantly stressing about money, which by the way isn’t healthy, and who doesn’t have enough money to survive.

Other tools could be a calculator, a mentor or financial advisor if you need and can afford one, and of course savings and investment accounts. Gather your money management tools and start planning!
